Excellent piece thank you. Mill indeed argued that people cannot confidently hold a view unless they have heard the counter argument presented by the other side. That requires tolerance, which is not always easy but I guess that’s the point huh?
I especially appreciated you drawing attention to the hypocrisy of the hard left (toward whose views I try to be ‘tolerant’ even if I find them daft). As you outlined, they demand affirmation (insecure indeed as they seek your complete ‘conversion’ to their ‘religious’ beliefs which is actually just a way to prevent any critique and thus the slippery slope steepens significantly - trans activists are a good example here), but then they deny you your God-given right to freedom of opinion.
My only small ‘critique’ would be your example of contrasting criticism of Islam with claims that the Holocaust never took place. Is this not akin to critiquing APGW vs denying gravity? But I take your point and suppose people have the right to believe in gravity or not.
