This is a timely piece, and one that has a massive implication for the rest of Europe, including the UK. The last sentence is one that any true Democrat, or genuine Progressive should agree with. There are two points: firstly the genie is out of the bottle, and secondly it feels like a replay of the campaign against Brexit in the UK. Regarding the first point- a clear division has emerged between Identarian Globaists, and those seeking to protect the Nation State both culturally and materially, both in France and across Europe. Whatever the outcome if the RN are either prevented from taking power by an effective campaign of 'persuasion' by the establishment, and it's foot soldiers on the Left, or the Institutions refuse to cooperate, the French Government will have conceded that it is in more or less open conflict with it's own people. Significantly for the future the establishment across the EU seems to have lost a large group of younger voters. Secondly this has strong resonances with the Remain campaign in the UK, with the positioning of formally neutral institutions or groups firmly in the camp of the prevailing status quo. In addition the indication by these institutions that they will work to undermine the outcome of any election: this seems to be an echo of the behaviour of the 'Blob' in reaction to Brexit, and the Truss administration. It will be interesting to see how an incoming Remainer staffed government led by Starmer will seek to deal with a Europe where France (among others) is no longer seeking ever closer union.

Excellent. No fan of RN but authoritarianism is not fighting them it seeks to propagate itself and itself alone. Fascinating.
