So interesting. As a Christian, I see hope and faith as virtues but tied to my trust in a redeeming God. It certainly is "a sensibility that involves choice and capacity to choose well'. They help us to choose the best and righteous way to live.
In the age of lazy, incompetent politicians who are wilfully ignorant of the virtue of choosing righteousness these are sorely lacking qualities.

I think using "values" instead of virtues has led us to they point of relativistic morality and principle in the world where there should be absolutes. It is partly why the meaning of the word hope has been carelessly used to replace proper "future oriented political thinking" and I would posit properly oriented cultural thinking.
