Excellent treatment of this worrying trend. I fear there is no change in prospect, though, as identity politics is largely framed around victimhood and therefore assumed vulnerability. It suits all players, as well as chiming with our society’s preference for emotion over considered and thoughtful response. If there is an answer to this problem I cannot see what it might be.
After the death of my son and dealing with his alcoholism my grown up children told me that I had to talk to someone like they were. I tried at one point and found it ridiculous to say the least. So instead I talk to the Lord and pray and talk to my husband.
Instead of remembering being sad and disappointed is a part of life people have to pathologise it and pay large amounts of money to the industry around this.
But we fail to protect the ones who are vulnerable, babies in the womb (abortion),the frail elderly (euthanasia) . The children trafficked by the Muslim rape gangs comes to mind. These children were said to have chosen to be groomed and raped or become prostitutes. Last tine I looked children cannot make these choices in law.
