As always your insights are thoughtful and well prepared. As possibly the most crass example of Americanism, a cowboy, I have always understood the anti-Americanism of Europe as a binding agent. I've enjoyed my time in Austria, Hungary, Denmark and Poland regardless of the often snide response to my typically Western image. We are who we are, we cannot be different and if Europe takes heart in hating us, that's their business.
One wonders whether the psychological mechanism of projection is at work in European antipathy toward America and Americans. It is Europe and its inhabitants that launched the horrendous wars that killed millions and is responsible for the holocaust (including not only the Germans, but their many collaborators in various occupied countries). It was America whose interventions brought these horrors to an end. And today, it is the Europeans of the UK, and likely elsewhere as well, that have accepted immigrant rape gangs and tried to protect them and cover them up, and it is Americans like Elon Musk that have forced the issue into public consciousness. So the moral pretension of Europeans adopting a condescending attitude towards Americans seems ridiculous and reflects poorly on those who adopt it.
